It is completely FREE to participate. Simply register by choosing a ticket that corresponds to the main role you want to play, namely Idea Generator, Developer, Designer, Engineer and Super Power.

Who can participate?

You should be at least 18 years of age and above. All participants must read and agree to the Terms and Conditions of the challenge. Hans Bredow Institut reserves the right to ask for proof of age and residency at any time before or during the challenge.

How does it work?

The Hackathon will start with the pitching session on Monday, October 19th. Participants having an idea will have one minute to pitch it in front of the audience. Teams will then be formed freely on-site. Coding will begin straight after the teams are formed. 

On Tuesday, October 20th, teams will demonstrate and present their apps in front of an expert jury. After the jury’s deliberations, the winners will be announced.

Who can pitch an idea?

Anyone who wants to!

Can I come with my own team?

Yes, you can come with an already-formed team, or you can find teammates on site.

How large can a team be?

Teams must have a minimum of two team members and a maximum of six.

Is this an overnight Hackathon?

Yes. The Hackathon starts at 9 a.m. on Monday and ends around 7 p.m. on Tuesday. The venue will be opened during the entire two days. You are welcome to bring your sleeping bag for overnight hacking. Comfortable facilities will be provided for the whole hackathon, to rest and offer best conditions to continue hacking. You are of course free to leave for a good night's rest and return in the morning.

Will you provide food and beverages?

Of course! A well-fed team is a happy team. Please let us know if you have any special dietary requirements and we will do our best to accommodate your needs.

What are the prizes?

1st prize is €3,000 and 2nd prize is €2,000 (cash). Thoses prizes will be evenly shared among teams members.

Does Hans Bredow Institut or BeMyApp keep my design and code after the Hackathon?

No. Your design and code are and will remain yours. But of course we would like to show the world what you've achieved during the hackathon. For more information, please refer to the Terms & Conditions.

What is it for ?

The purpose of the Webinar is to learn more about the technologies, APIs and data schemes which will be used during the hackathon. The webinar will be held by two experts, who will present you in detail Miracle-based APIs, but also share with you the concrete problematics related to age labelling, in order to give you insights on what can be done/improved.You’ll be able to ask all the questions you want to! 

How can I participate ?

It’s easy! First, you have to register to the event. Then you’ll receive an email with the link of the webinar.

Is it mandatory ?

No you are not obligated to attend to the webinar. However, we strongly recommend it to obtain valuable help in the understanding of the hackathon. Plus, you get to know some of the hackathon organisers and participants in advance.

Will I get to demo my app?

Yes ! You will get an opportunity to demo in front of a panel of judges and peers on Tuesday. Please look at the agenda and the Terms & Conditions for details.

How does the judging work?

Starting at approximately 5:00 PM on Tuesday, you will be given up to three minutes to demonstrate your app and to undergo a Q&A 2-minute period in front of a panel of judges and peers. The panel will score all entries based on innovation, business potential, user experience, and extent of use of MIRACLE datasets and APIs. Each criterion is weighted equally and represents 25% of the total score.

Who are the judges?

The judging panel will be composed of IT experts and professionals from the media industry. They will be announced during the hackathon.
